Block has served as chancellor since 2007

Says it has been the "greatest honor of my life"

Gene Block, who has served as chancellor of UCLA since 2007, announced today that he will be stepping down from his role. Block, who is 72 years old, said that he made the decision after much thought and consideration.

"Serving as UCLA's chancellor since 2007 has been the greatest honor of my life," Block said in a statement. "And so it is with bittersweet feelings that I would like to share with you my decision to step down as chancellor, effective June 30, 2023."

Block said that he is proud of the progress that UCLA has made during his tenure, including the university's rise in national and international rankings, the expansion of its research enterprise, and the increased diversity of its student body and faculty.
